Where would Javale McGee in his physical prime rank among NBA players if he had a top tier basketball IQ?

Reply Answer

I've been wanting to touch on this one for a while. I've seen some pretty good takes, and I agree with a lot of, ah, lot of what's been said. Um, if he had a true I Q comparable to that of somebody who could read the game faster, he would have immense impact. I think someone mentioned that he doesn't really score. He doesn't have that he's not. He's more of a rebounder. Defensive, uh, Impact. And another person mentioned that it was not necessarily the best question opposes if he wasn't a smart player, which I agree with some degree but my issues. Javal doesn't read the game quickly enough to be the impact that he could be. This his, um, his intangibles offer. Let me give you my point. Uh, Yokich is obviously a better offensive player, but Yokich utilizes Hiss size to put pressure on defense is through his passing ability. His ability, his literacy, his actual ability to read the game is much faster. And if Javale had that kind of like you, his intangibles would allow him to put immense pressure on defense is without scoring just by being able to make reads on where help defense is and use his height to deliver passes at angles that most guys can't make. But because he doesn't have that wherewithal to kind of be aware, he becomes much more limited in his impact. Um, I liken it to in the playoffs against, uh, the think it was Denver. LeBron had a couple plays where he was posting up in the key, and he was saying, I have a size advantage. Let's take advantage of this even if I don't score is going to force the defense to respond a certain way. And I remember seeing some of those passes be a little out of reach where only LeBron could get him and he would have to jump to catch it. Now, LeBron's literacy is such that he can make the catch, and before he comes down, see that two defenders have committed to him and make the past Anthony Davis before he comes down. It's a simple play, but it doesn't require him to be a good scorer. And it's something that if Javal had more of in his game, he would be such a ah greater impact on. Do you see the way that Yokich impacts the game with his ability to pass. That's part of the question that I see is most relevant. I don't even need you to scored with it. I just need you to be able to read what defense is air doing and make plays accordingly, using your size in ways that, like a guard, wouldn't be able to do. Uh, on. And he doesn't have that, and he hasn't gained it in 10 years in the league. That's my issue.
